RAAF 82 Wing Liberators, Shipping Strike.

Limited edition of 30.

This action-painting of a convoy strike is based on a raid by 24Sqdn, No82 wing RAAF on November 10th 1944, featuring B24J Liberator, A 72-38 “G”George.

The information-piece supplied with the reproduction gives the names of the crew members as well as a brief history of the development of this, the most successful American heavy bomber type of WWII. The Liberator was remarkable for its unusual high aspect-ratio wing, unusual, that is, for an aircraft designed in the late 1930’s. Over 19,000 models were produced and they first saw service in Europe with RAF Coastal Command and the US Eight Airforce and, later, in the Pacific warzone. The RAAF operated 287 Liberators, mostly B24J models.
