Limited edition of 75. There were many disappointed RAAF and RAN pilots and crews when an announcement was made that the Phantoms, which had been on loan to Australia while awaiting the delivery of the General Dynamics F111, were to be returned to the USA. Plans for the RAN to adopt the type for carrier use were also abandoned, along with the idea of buying another aircraft carrier. This stunning painting shows two deadly-looking McDonnell Douglas F4Es of 6Sqdn RAAF in battle formation over the bombing range at Evans Head in NSW. The Phantom is generally recognised as the most effective fighter ever built and has a loyal following among those who flew it, including the fortunate few who operated the fabulous Phantoms with the RAAF |
