Southen Cross 1928. First Crossing of the Pacific.

Limited edition of 30.

This dramatic reconstruction of the final stage of the first aerial crossing of the Pacific shows the famous Fokker VIIb-3m “Southern Cross” over the town of Ballina New South Wales as Charles Kingsford Smith turns north towards Brisbane where he was to land among a rapturous crowd of well-wishers.

Smithy was, with Charles Lindbergh, the finest aviator of the era– the information piece that accompanies this reproduction carries a precis of his achievements as well as the artist’s portraits of Charles Kingsford Smith, Charles Ulm co-pilot, Navigator Harry Lyon and Radio operator Jim Warner.

The “Southern Cross” is preserved at Brisbane airport.
