Sunderland III. Bay of Biscay Battle

Limited edition of 30.

A dramatic reconstruction of one of the legendary air battles of World War II. The painting captures a split-second in a 20 minute fight when one of the five attacking JU88’s plunges, blazing into the sea. The RAF Coastal Command Sunderland of 461 Sqdn, most of whose crew were Australian, was attacked by five powerfully armed Ju88’s of the Luftwaffe. The painting is based on a crew report found in Ivan Southall’s book”They Shall Not Pass Unseen”. The accompanying information sheet tells how the Sunderland survived after destroying most of its attackers.
