Limited edition of 50. This superb painting is the sort of picture every Australian would be proud to hang, if only they knew about it. It is a magnificent reconstruction of a little-known incident during one of the greatest flights in aviation history. A crew of four Australians flew their Vickers Vimy into history with their 11,000mile flight across the world to win the Great England to Australia Air Race in 1919. In this his splendid study the artist has chosen a dramatic moment on the flight when their Vickers Vimy meets up with the Australian cruiser Sydney, placed on station in the Timor Sea to give help should it be called upon to do so. The artist has written a fascinating precis of the flight to accompany this reproduction and has illustrated it with, among other things, crew portraits. |
